POS Debit Account Payment System

The Keene Food Service Program uses a computerized "point of sale" (POS) debit meal payment system. This system allows you to "deposit" money into your child's account by cash, check, or online payments. Funds will automatically be deducted from his/her account when cafeteria purchases are made, using a unique personal identification number (PIN) assigned to your child.

This is a Debit Account and is not to be used as a charge system.

Negative balances are not permitted.

To deposit money into your child's account
with Cash or Check:

1. Write a check made payable to Keene Food Service for the amount you would like to have deposited into the account. Any amount left in your child's account or any balance due at the end of a school year will roll over into the following school year. Negative balances are not permitted!

2. Be sure that your child's first and last name and pin number are written in the memo section of your check. If you are unsure of the pin number, please contact the school that your child attends to inquire about their pin number.

3. Elementary students may turn their checks/money into their classroom teacher and from there, it will be sent down to the cafeteria. Middle School and High School students may turn this in directly to the cashier at cafeteria.

NOTE:
Students may use cash to pay for lunch but it is not recommended and cannot be traced. It should be in a sealed envelope with the child’s first and last name on it. At the elementary schools, cash may NOT be turned in on the cafeteria line for sanitary reasons. Cash may be turned in on the line at KMS and KHS.

Please note that the preferred method of payment is by CHECK or on line payments.  They are the safest method and can be traced, but cash cannot.

Parents may also mail a check to:
Keene Food Service
77 Arch Street
Keene, NH 03431

Payments sent to the Food Service Office instead of the child’s school may take one day to be credited to your child’s account after it is received.

**Be sure that both your child's name and your child's pin number are written in the memo section of the check.

*** Returned checks are subject to a $25.00 returned check fee. If two checks are returned for insufficient funds, check writing privileges will be suspended and only cash or money orders will be accepted.

**** Perkins Academy School is a manual school and does not have a computerized account system.

Keene Food Services Allergen Policy

Managing food allergies in school is a team effort; Keene Food Services staff works closely with school nurses to ensure that the needs of students with food allergies are met.  On a daily basis, our menus offer several options to enjoy. Providing students with menu choices allows each child to select food items that meet their taste preferences and allergy needs. Most schools in SAU 29 offer a “peanut free” table in the cafeteria.  If there is not one in your school, you can talk with the principal to establish one.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to establish and maintain a complete “peanut free environment” in school cafeterias.  Prohibiting foods containing a specific ingredient, such as peanuts, does not eliminate the possibility of student exposure to that ingredient. Food items that do not contain peanuts may be produced in manufacturing plants that make peanut products, often times using the same production line. We promote and encourage learning how to manage allergies in settings such as school, the movie theater, a friend’s house and restaurants where there is always the potential of exposure.

Also, despite careful review of ingredient statements, there is no guarantee that a manufacturer’s product ingredient list includes the word “peanut”; components may be labeled as “like” substitute for another approved ingredient. In addition, students and staff may bring in items from home for snack or lunch that contain peanuts.

Parents and guardians with concerns regarding food allergies are advised to consult with their medical professional, and the school nurse to determine the best course of action for their child and to assist students in selecting the best meals, snacks, and beverages while at school.

We are able to provide parents with all of the labels for the products that we serve for peace of mind.  We can also provide parents with a list of the gluten free items.
